Division Co-sponsors side events by UNA Women and other Organizations at CSW 57
2012 side event on Energy, Health & Water
UNA SNY is partnering with several organizations during March in support of the UN Commission on the Status of Women, International Women’s Day and Women’s Month. This year the theme of events is Violence Against Women.
The UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), a commission of the UN Economic and Social Council. (ECOSOC), is the principal global policy-making body dedicated exclusively to gender equality and advancement of women. Every year, representatives of Member States gather at UN Headquarters in New York to evaluate progress on gender equality, identify challenges, set global standards and formulate concrete policies to promote gender equality and advancement of women worldwide. The 57th Session of CSW will be held from March 4 through March 15.
In addition to official Commission events open mainly to national delegates, non-governmental organizations hold about 150 to 200 side events. The Division is co-sponsoring several of these, on March 5 and 8, including one by UNA Women on the life-cycle of violence. The Westchester Chapter and other organizations are also hosting events in their areas.
For details about side events as well as other relevant events, see our March Calendar.
